While my toddler essentially eats ALLLL the berries before I get my hands on them in our house, I have managed to get a few for myself theses days.
And this Mixed Green Salad with Berries (along with these Mixed Berry Oat Bars) are getting all the love.
You can’t go wrong with berries in a big salad. And this particular salad is amazing because there is so little chopping to do. I only have to to cut up the strawberries–everything else is just toss and go.
This salad pairs perfectly with just about any dinner from the grill. And it is also an easy meal when you top it with some fresh grilled chicken. Goat cheese, pecans, fresh greens and plenty of berries–now that is a salad worth repeating!
Why this Green Salad with Berries is the best:
- Minimal prep work. Salads are great. Spending lots of time chopping a ton of ingredients is not. You will only need to slice up the berries and avocado. That is it!
- Fresh, simple ingredients. In the summer, I have all that is needed for this mixed green salad with berries on hand at just about any time.
- That strawberry balsamic dressing! This is one of my favorite homemade dressings. The berries in the dressing makes for a refreshing flair to even the most basic salad.
Ingredient Notes:
- I love goat cheese in this mixed green salad with berries, but I also love feta crumbles if you don’t have any around.
- Sometimes, I add up to half of another container of mixed greens. There are a lot of berries in this salad, and I like a lot more green some days, others I want allllll the berries.
- Feel free to toast the pecans a bit before adding them in!
- For the dressing, you can also opt for a plain balsamic dressing like this one. Both are amazing with this salad.
- Thawed frozen strawberries will work for this dressing as well.
How to make this recipe:
- Add all the dressing ingredients into a food processor or high powered blender.
- Process or blend until smooth, scraping down the sides as desired. You can add some extra olive oil or a little bit of water if the dressing seems too thick.
3. Add all the salad ingredients into a large bowl.
4. Add desired amount of dressing and toss. Serve! Doesn’t get much easier!
Expert Tips:
- Make it a meal by serving this green salad with berries with chicken, steak or salmon on top.
- Dress the salad just before serving if prepping ahead of time. Use half the dressing to start when adding it so as not to overdo it. You can also add the dressing after serving it so that everyone has their desired amount.
- Other add-ins to give your salad a boost: These sourdough croutons are AMAZING. Chopped bacon, sliced almonds, golden raisins, or even a grain like quinoa. I have also added some red onion to this salad before–it’s not everyone’s favorite, but I quite enjoy it!

I made this salad for my girlfriends today and it was a huge hit, especially the strawberry balsamic dressing. I did add 2 Tbsp of Splenda because I wanted it sweet. I served it as a salad bar with greens and “mix-ins” and everyone had fun personalizing their salad. Thanks for a great recipe.
Oh what a great idea doing it as a salad bar—will be doing this next time. Thanks Polly!!
Served it to our volleyball team for dinner. Parents and teens loved it! I used raspberries instead of strawberries in the dressing and added 1/2 clove of garlic. It was pretty and delicious
I love it!! So glad the whole crew enjoyed it, May!
