Chocolate Peanut Butter Overnight Oats are every Reese Cup lover’s breakfast dream come true.
Rich, creamy peanut butter, chocolate and hearty oats make for a sweet and delicious breakfast that is ready when you wake up.
Why this is the best breakfast:
- It is ready for you when you wake up. We are tired enough in the morning. Don’t make thinking about breakfast another thing to do. It’s all set and ready if you opt for these chocolate peanut butter overnight oats!
- Super kid friendly. Tastes like a treat, but really is great fuel for the morning. The kids will love it too!
- Simple ingredients and easy to prep. These peanut butter chocolate oats only require a handful of pantry staples and only require about 5 minutes to prep. We like to make several at a time and then have grab and go meals in the morning.
- Peanut butter and chocolate, hello! I mean, this is a classic flavor. PB and chocolate are always better together.
Peanut butter in my overnight oats is truly one of my favorite things. From Peanut Butter Banana Protein Oats, to Peanut Butter Greek Yogurt Overnight Oats, and don’t forget Peanut Butter Cheesecake Overnight Oatmeal. Yes, CHEESECAKE.
What you will need:
- oats: old-fashioned oats, also called rolled oats are the recommendation for best results in this chocolate peanut butter overnight oats recipe. Some people enjoy using steel-cut oats in their overnight oatmeal recipe but I am not a fan. They are still much too hard and chewy even after soaking overnight.
- milk: use your preferred milk for this recipe–whole, skim, soy milk, coconut milk, etc.. If you are feeling extra, I highly recommend chocolate milk of some sort–dairy or dairy free, for more chocolatey goodness. I often bounce between whole milk and unsweetened vanilla almond milk since it’s what we have on hand at all times.
- peanut butter: use whatever peanut butter you have on hand. You can opt for crunchy peanut butter if desired. You can also substitute any other nut or seed butter–almond butter, cashew butter, etc.
- cocoa powder: unsweetened cocoa powder, for extra dark chocolate oats, use dark cocoa powder.
- vanilla: a touch of vanilla extract for richer flavor
- sweetener: we prefer pure maple syrup for overnight oats. You can wait to sweeten until just before serving so as not to overly sweeten it. You can also use your preferred sweetener: honey, sugar, agave, stevia, etc.
- sea salt: just a pinch!
- optional: chia seeds are a great optional add in for a touch of fiber and protein. You can add some protein powder, chocolate chips, some coconut to really switch it up and more.
How to make these:
Nothing to it. These Chocolate Peanut Butter Overnight Oats can probably even be whipped up with your eyes closed.
- Add all the ingredients to a bowl or jar.
- Stir well.
- Chill for at least 4 hours. Add some extra milk if needed before serving, adjust sweetener and add some extra peanut butter and you are set!
That is it! I would say it is easier than 1, 2, 3 even.
Recipe Tips
- This recipe is easily made vegan. Use a dairy free milk and opt for maple instead of honey. You should  be all set!
- Sweeten this recipe to your liking and with the sweetener you prefer. I LOVE maple syrup. Not your favorite? Use what you love. Honey, sugar, whatever works best!
- You can meal prep several servings of this overnight oatmeal at a time. I typically make several at a time and have them ready to go when I need them. These are usually great for about 3-5 days in the fridge.
- Chia seeds are always optional. I add them to give a fiber and protein boost. Not your thing? Skip them! Don’t have any? Skip them! You will still have a great breakfast, promise.

These overnight oats are delicious! So easy to make, I am obsessed with this recipe and highly recommend it.
So happy to hear this Suzanne!! This is one of our absolute faves so I love hearing that someone else lives it as well!
Hi I’m just starting to get into overnight oats and was wondering if I have to use the flax meal?
Hi Rebekah! Flax is completely optional! The recipe will be fine without it!
My wife and I tried making these. We love overnight oats. Ours turned out black though instead of the attractive brown that you made. We were wondering how to make them and get that same color and attractiveness to our oats.
Oh, that doesn’t sound pretty! So some cocoas are darker which in turn can make whatever recipe turn out dark. I made brownies once with a cocoa that looked dark but I figured it was fine—the brownies were black as night!! So that’s what I assume may be the issue.
Overnight oats has always been my favorite breakfast. It’s so healthy and so versatile. I love this peanut butter flavor combo. Looks very delicious and so creamy. Making this soon for sure.
I could eat overnight oats every single day–and so many flavor combos!
