If you are looking for a fun and super kid friendly edible craft, these Halloween Banana Mummy Pops are great. Easy enough for the little ones to make and a fun way to jazz up a banana.

Why You Will Love These Halloween Bananas:

    • They are super kid friendly.
    • Absolutely delicious.
    • Freezer friendly.
    • A tasty treat that contains fruit!

    What You Will Need:

    • bananas: ripened to your liking. Plan on eating these right away so it's best they are the way you or the kiddos like them.
    • white or melting chocolate: I prefer white chocolate but melting chocolate or melting wafers will surely work as well.
    • candy eyeballs: I have always easily found these at my local grocery in the baking section. There are a lot of different options during Halloween season. If you don't have any, mini chocolate chips make great options as well as tiny pieces of raisins. Any other ideas you may have are welcome!
    • popsicle sticks: I typically use the popsicle sticks. I have used cake pop sticks as well but the pops don't seem to be as sturdy on the skinnier sticks as the popsicle sticks.
    • plastic bag: you can use a classic ziplock bag or an icing bag is great too!

How to Make These Halloween Banana Mummies:

Pretty simple, like I said. To make these Halloween Banana Mummies, do the following:

    1. Peel each banana and slice in half. Insert a popsicle stick into each banana.
    2. Melt the white chocolate using about 20-25 second increments in the microwave, stirring well between each heating. Don't over heat the chocolate or it will become thick and dry and won't work. Wait until almost all of the white chocolate is melted and then stir and stir until the rest become fully melted.
    3. Transfer the melted chocolate into a plastic bag or piping bag. It works better if the chocolate isn't super hot as it will be less runny. Allow it to cool slightly if this is the case.
    4. Cut a small slit in the tip or corner of the bag.
    5. Put two dots of white chocolate where you would like the eyeballs to go and press two eyes into it. Hold the eyes there for about 30 seconds to allow them to set better and not slide away.
    6. Drizzle the white chocolate in a zig zag motion on each banana after the eyes are set to make a mummy like figure. Allow to set and enjoy or freeze!

    Recipe Tips:

    • Handle the bananas gently when adding the popsicle sticks. I would make sure a grown up does this part! It's pretty easy to pop the stick right through the banana if you aren't careful. You can add a drizzle of white chocolate around the base of the banana where the popsicle stick is to help "glue" it in place.
    • Feel free to make these your own! You can use another candy for the eyeballs, decorate the Halloween banana mummies with festive sprinkles, add shredded coconut, dye the chocolate and more. It's a great way to allow the kids to freely express themselves and make a tasty treat as well!
    • Unless you plan on freezing them, these banana pops are best eaten immediately. The bananas will brown and refrigerating is not ideal either. Freeze any leftovers and they will keep for up to 2 months.

    Ingredients

    • 3 bananas
    • 1 c white chocolate chips
    • 12 candy eyeballs
    • 6 popsicle sticks (lollipop sticks work as well)
    • icing bag or plastic sandwich bag

    Instructions

    • Peel bananas and cut in half. Place on parchment paper.
    • Gently press a pop stick into each banana.
    • Melt white chocolate chips by heating in microwave safe bowl for 25 second increments and stirring well until melted fully. Do not over heat. (You can use double boiler method as well if preferred.) Transfer to an icing or plastic bag.
    • Cut a small slit in the icing bag and make a small half inch line where you would like the eyes. Press eyes onto the white chocolate and allow to set for about 30 seconds. Drizzle the white chocolate back and forth to make your own mummy designs.
    • Allow white chocolate to cool and dry. Freeze to eat frozen or eat right away!

They didn't turn out as cute as yours thanks to a tiny "helper" haha, but my toddler LOVED helping with this fun and tasty treat!
