These chocolate brownie blossom cookies an easy, but very much show stopping treat! I recently took one brownie mix and turned it into 3 amazing cookie recipes–check out these Brownie Mix Cookies too!

These chocolate crinkle blossom cookies:

  • are so fun and festive
  • can easily be varied with a variety of kiss flavors
  • are so simple to prep
  • a kid-friendly cookie to make!
  • freezer friendly!
  • the kids and the grown ups LOVE them!

These can be a Christmas cookie for the cookie exchange, but they are really perfect for any season at all when you get the urge to bake!

Ingredient Notes

Full list of ingredients with exact measurements below in recipe card.

  • Hershey kisses can easily be varied–you can use any kind you like! The candy cane kisses or mint chocolate truffle would be AMAZING for a mint chocolate flavor! Classic milk chocolate kisses are great as well.
  • I used Ghiradelli Brownie Mix-the Dark chocolate version specifically for these images. The package is a 20 ounce package. Brownie mixes come in a variety of sizes. The ghiradelli includes chocolate chips so that may be what adds a bit more weight to it, but the Ghiradelli no doubt came out the very best as compared to other brands. Other brownie mixes will still work, I just find the Ghiradelli is the best as far as texture and flavor for these brownie mix cookies.
  • The espresso powder is the secret ingredient that makes these cookies, or really any chocolate dessert recipe that much more intense in chocolate flavor. I highly recommend not skipping it if at all possible!

Ways To Vary This Recipe

  • vary the Hershey Kisses: use the hugs, dark chocolate, there’s a new snickerdoodle flavor this year, hot cocoa, and so many more!
  • use a mini reese cup instead of the kisses. Rolos are great as well!
  • you can roll the cookies in holiday sprinkles or chocolate sprinkles, etc. instead of the powdered sugar–they will not have the same texture and there won’t be crinkling, but it can make them a bit more festive.
  • add some peppermint extract to the cookie dough

Step-By-Step Instructions

Brownie mix, eggs, flour, butter and other ingredients in mixing bowl.

Step 1: Add all the ingredients to a mixing bowl.

Chilled brownie mix cookie dough in bowl.

Step 2: Using an electric mixer, beat the mixture until fully incorporated and smooth. Chill for about 30 minutes to an hour.

Step 3: Once chilled and easy to work with, roll into about 1 to 1 1/2 inch balls. Roll into powdered sugar and generously coat.

Powdered sugar covered chocolate cookie dough balls on parchment lined pan.

Step 4: Bake on parchment lined cookie sheet for about 7-9 minutes. You don’t want to over bake, they may look like they are still a touch wet in the very center and that is ok. They will be puffed up a bit and set around the edges when done.

Step 3: Remove from oven and use a biscuit or cookie cutter to shuffle into nice even circles if desired. This can be a bit tricky as some of the powdered sugar will scatter but it still should look ok for the crinkles.

Step 4: Gently press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie. Allow the cookies to cool for about 3-5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Recipe Tips

If you want to the kisses to hold their shape, do not move the cookies until the kisses have solidified. I allow them to cool for several hours before touching them otherwise the kiss will sink into the cookie or lose its shape. If you like them that way, that is totally fine too!

Definitely chill this brownie cookie dough for best results at least for 30 minutes if possible. This will make it so much easier to work with!

Don’t over bake these cookies. They will dry out easily so it’s better to slightly underbake versus over baking. They will have a nice fudgy center that is irresistible!

Storage

Store these chocolate blossoms at room temperature in an airtight container for about 3-4 days. These cookies can be frozen for about 3 months in a sealed freezer-safe container–allow the cookies to cool and the kiss to solidify before freezing with parchment between layers.
