I was feeling really overwhelmed today. Not from one thing in particular, a handful of things to be honest, and none taking major priority over another. I was in a place I didn’t like and yet, I was unable to really get out of it.
Then tonight, I sat in church and heard the thing I probably needed to hear more than anything. Three words shifted everything for me tonight. What were they?
“Say thank you.”
That’s it. So small and so simple, but so what I needed to hear tonight. Today I was so wrapped up in myself, my issues, my hardships, my stresses that everything else was on the back burner. And yet the push for gratitude is what I needed to hear.
So I am stressed. So I am overwhelmed. So I am busy. Who isn’t?! And when I give all of my energy to focusing on these things, I have no time or focus for the things that are actually blessings in my life.
So I sat there and I shifted–quickly. In my head I sat there and said thank you for each and everything that is a true blessing in my life. My husband, my family, my dog, my house, a good job, great friends……. and went on to even the things I take for granted like clean water, a warm bed, a hot shower, etc. As I continued this list, my breathing slowed, and my body calmed. Sure as I walked out of church tonight, I still went through the mental notes of my to do list, but I at least felt like things were a bit clearer.
So don’t forget this week, especially as you start your week, one that could be overwhelming for you as well, say thank you. and say it often.
There’s not much I need to say about this new recipe, a Carrot Cake Superfood Smoothie.It’s rich, creamy and delicious but also packed with nutrients and all the good stuff you need! Chia seeds, flax seeds, walnuts and even some maca if you like give this smoothie all the power. Cinnamon, dates, and all the other fixings give it the great flavor that tastes more like a treat than health food!
This is actually the first time I have ever put carrots into my smoothie and while they gave the smoothie a rich fall color, the smoothie tasted nothing like carrots. The texture was still nice and smooth and I wasn’t chewing threw little chunks of carrot through my straw. So a carrot cake smoothie is much more like the cake than the veggie itself. Give it a shot!

- 2 c unsweetened almond milk
- 2 frozen bananas
- 2 large carrots chopped into small chunks
- 1 T flax seed
- 1 T chia seeds
- 1 T maca powder optional
- 3 T shredded coconut unsweetened
- 1 T chopped walnuts
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1- 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 medjool date pitted
- pinch of sea salt
- Combine all ingredients into a high powered blender.
- Blend on high until smooth and creamy.
- Serve immediately!
